PYP Scope and Sequences

As an IB (International Baccalaureate) candidate school, we use the transdisciplinary framework of the PYP (Primary Years Programme) to plan six transdisciplinary units that inquire into a Central Idea. Central Ideas help frame the planning of each unit so that learning is engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant.

The standards that are woven into each transdisciplinary unit are:

  • Common Core Math Standards

  • Common Core ELA Standards

  • OSPI Social Studies Standards

  • Next Generation Science Standards

  • Archdiocesan Religion Standards

  • Second Step Social and Emotional Learning Standards

The PYP taught curriculum sets out HOW educators teach the PYP. As a PYP candidate school, we are committed to structured, purposeful inquiry that engages students actively in their own learning.

The programme supports students’ efforts to construct meaning from the world around them by:

  • drawing on their prior knowledge

  • providing provocation through new experiences

  • providing opportunities for reflection and consolidation.

This approach respects students’ developing ideas about how the world works. It encourages them to question, consider and refine their understanding of the social and natural world.
