Curriculum Overview

All MYP Spanish classes focus on the core skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. We integrate songs, games, and cultural activities throughout the curriculum. Recent cultural celebrations have included an Advent prayer service in Spanish with songs dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, exploring corn-based foods in the Americas with the fifth grade during their westward expansion unit (cooking arepas, tortillas, and johnnycake together) considering the ethical implications of bullfighting, and dressing up for Día de los Muertos. Recent games and activities have included simulating weather reports for a Spanish-speaking news station and clothes races and a narrated fashion show while studying articles of clothing.
