PE Philosophy

Students walk out of the gym feeling good about themselves as a PE student.

One of the ways that our PE students feel successful is that competition with classmates is de-emphasized. Instead, students are encouraged to compete against themselves (their own personal record) or are encouraged to compete as a class against a stopwatch or a previous class record.

Cooperation is stressed in all drills, games, relays, and activities.

In addition, there is little scoring of games. When a lead-up game or even an actual game is finished there is no talk of who won or lost or the score. Instead the motto is “if you had fun, you won”. At the end of each class, there is more discussion about ways that sportsmanship was shown than there is about the score for the day.

Activities, especially at the primary grades, are built around having the student be successful.

At all levels children are encouraged, with the drills chosen and the activities used, to be engaged and not waiting for his/her turn in a line.

By the time a student graduates they have been exposed to a wide variety of activities, games and sports on a continuing spectrum of difficulty.

PLEASE feel free to drop by your child’s PE class at any time to check out our program.
