PE Goals

The three main goals of the physical education program at St. Luke are:

  1. Develop and maintain appropriate levels of physical fitness for health.
  2. Develop appropriate motor skills, beginning with fundamental motor skills, which lead to specific sport skills.
  3. To expose the students to a wide variety of activities.

PRIMARY

The main emphasis here is on developing fundamental skills, which include the movement patterns for running, jumping, throwing, catching, striking and kicking. Chikdren need to develop good basic mechanics for these patterns.
The children also learn games using these different patterns with an emphasis on developing good social skills to interact with other children.

ELEMENTARY

The skills developed in the primary grades are used in the elementary grades for more complex movement patterns. These specific skills are used in lead-up elementary grades, including following rules and developing good sportsmanship.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Emphasis in the middle school is sports oriented, fitness oriented, as well as using cooperative games. Also an emphasis is placed on the appreciation of lifetime sports and activities.
